A Development Charge is a fee that the Township collects at the time a building permit application is completed. These fees are to help pay for the cost of infrastructure and services to new development in the Township. This includes facilities and community centres, emergency services, roads and sewer infrastructure.

Below you will see how development charges are broken down by services in the Township of Douro-Dummer. Both residential, and non-residential developments have different percentage amounts that get distributed into different services. These fees help pay for the cost of infrastructure and services to new development in the Township.

2024 Development Charges Study
Development Charges (DC’s) are a primary source of funding for growth-related capital expenditures and are levied against new developments. The 2024 Development Charges Background Study relates to the provision of all eligible DC Services (i.e., Development Related Studies, Library Services, Parks & Recreation, Fire Services and Services Related to a Highway). The study calculates the maximum permissible charge that the Township may charge as per the legislation.
- June 18, 2024, at 5:00 PM - Presentation from Watson and Associates Economists Ltd. outlining the study will be held at the Council meeting.
- August 6, 2024, at 5:00 PM - Public meeting regarding the study will be held at the Council Meeting.
In compliance with Section 10(4) of the Development Charges Act, 1997, the Township is required to post the development charge background study 60 days prior to the passing of the development charge by-law and until the by-law expires or is repealed.
