Inspections
Once you have a permit issued, you will need to book an inspection to make sure that the construction project meets the regulations outlined in the building permit and follow the Ontario Building Code.
Book an Inspection for a Permit
To book an inspection, please use the Cloudpermit to request your inspection at least 48 hours before you'd like the inspection to take place. The online system can be accessed 24/7, and inspections can be booked in advance.
If your permit was not issued in the Cloudpermit system, please contact staff for assistance. Most permits issued before 2019 are not online and must be added by staff manually, and permits issued under our previous permit tracker system need to have the inspections added after your account is linked.
When do I need a building inspection?
You are required to get a building inspection at specific stages of construction outlined in the Ontario Building Code.
All building inspections will be specified on your building permit card once issued. You can also find the required inspections on your Cloudpermit Workspace.
It is the responsibility of all people involved in a project to to book all necessary building inspections before proceeding with work.
Inspection Hours
Inspection hours are scheduled Monday to Thursday from 9am to 3pm in one hour blocks. Due to multiple requests, inspectors cannot guarantee an exact inspection time, however they will always do their best to accommodate your schedule.
Please note that septic permits require a substantial inspection, as well as a final inspection. The final should not be booked until grass has begun to grow over the site. Do not cover the site with mulch, gravel, or anything other than grass seed! (Final inspections for septic systems cannot be completed with snow on the ground)
If you require assistance booking inspections please contact the office. Please note that a voicemail request is not a confirmed inspection. A staff member will return your message and work with you to book an inspection time.
Inspections Fees
There are generally no fees for inspections as they are built into the cost of your building permit.
However, as per Building By-law 2024-31 an additional fee of $225 per inspection may be applied if more than two of any type of inspection is required or as deemed necessary by the Chief Building Official.
Septic Permit Inspections
Please note that septic permits require a substantial inspection, as well as a final inspection. The final should not be booked until grass has begun to grow over the site.
Do not cover the site with anything other than grass seed.
Final inspections for septic systems cannot be completed with snow on the ground.
Electrical Inspections
If your building or renovation project includes electrical work, you need to get an electrical inspection through the Electrical Safety Authority. The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) report is required prior to granting occupancy.
