Significant Weather Event - December 28, 2025

The Township of Douro-Dummer has declared a Significant Weather Event (SWE), due to the significant freezing rain expected this afternoon and continuing into the early morning hours of Monday, December 29, 2025, in accordance with Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

As per the Municipal Act, a municipality may declare a significant weather event when weather hazard, either forecast or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in which they have authority over.

This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives until the municipality declares that the Significant Weather Event has ended. In each case, during a declared significant weather event, the standard for addressing winter maintenance is to monitor the weather and to deploy resources to address the issue starting from the time that the municipality deems it appropriate to do so. When the municipality has declared the event has ended, the standard timelines for winter maintenance activities will begin.

The intent of a declaration is to notify the residents of the Township, that due to current and forecasted conditions, caution is to be exercised when travelling on Township maintained roads as it may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads, parking lots and sidewalks back to a normal state of repair.

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution when travelling during a Significant Weather Event and consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as staff work diligently to respond to this significant weather event.
