Public Works Update — Spring Road Conditions

The Township of Douro-Dummer recognizes the effects that spring conditions have had on our gravel roads.

Gravel roads are saturated at this time of year. While a road may appear dry, very little moisture is needed to make it wet. While grading may seem like a quick fix, it can make conditions worse during the spring thaw. When roads are too wet, grading turns gravel into mud, creating slippery surfaces and more potholes. If frost remains below the surface, grading can trap moisture and lead to further deterioration.

Roads must fully thaw and dry before grading can begin. Please be assured that grading will start as soon as conditions are suitable. This work remains a top priority for Public Works.

We know these conditions are frustrating. Your patience is appreciated as staff works to maintain the gravel roads within the Township.
