Upcoming Candidate Training Sessions - March 31, 2026 and April 8, 2026

The Township of Douro-Dummer has collaborated with local Townships and the City of Peterborough to offer two information sessions for 2026 Municipal Election Candidates.

Candidate 101 – So You Want to Run for Council

Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2026

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Market Hall (140 Charlotte St. Peterborough ON, K9J 2T8)

Anyone interested in running for Township Council or learning more about local government is invited to attend an information session outlining the roles and responsibilities of Council Members.

Hosted by Nigel Bellchamber, this event will give attendees an opportunity to ask questions, meet new people, learn about the responsibilities, expectations and realities of public office.

This session is designed as an informative guide for anyone considering municipal leadership and is ideal for potential candidates, their spouses or partners, and anyone interested in learning more about municipal government. It will be recorded and posted on the City of Peterborough's YouTube channel.


Candidate and Third Party Advertiser Training 

Date: Wednesday, April 8, 2026

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Location: Community Hall of the Cavan Monaghan Community Centre (986 County Road 10, Millbrook)

This free information session is designed for individuals considering running for municipal office, as well as those interested in registering as a Third Party Advertiser in the upcoming municipal election.

During the session, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) representatives will provide an overview of:

  • Candidate and Third Party Advertiser eligibility
  • The nomination and registration process
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of Council
  • Campaign finance rules and compliance requirements

The formal presentation will run approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

In addition, Election Staff representing each Township in the County and the City of Peterborough will be on-site to provide answers and share municipality-specific election information.

This session offers an excellent opportunity for prospective candidates and advertisers to gain a clear understanding of the municipal election process and ensure they are prepared to participate.
