Douro-Dummer Public Library Launches Township Humanities
Other New Programs with funding from the Seniors Community Grant
Douro-Dummer Public Library is excited to be launching a new program in partnership with several neighbouring rural library systems and scholars from Trent University.
Township Humanities brings university scholarship into rural public libraries through accessible, professor-led presentations and discussions.
The idea is simple:
- Pick up a short academic text at the library in the weeks leading up to the presentation.
- Give it a read, then come out to a lively lecture and facilitated discussion.
- We’ll be welcoming professors from various humanities and social science departments.
First session:
- Thursday September 17, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Upcoming Sessions:
- Thursday October 15, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Thursday November 12, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Funding Details
Funding for this program is made possible thanks to the Government of Ontario's Seniors Community Grant Program.
This funding is for enhancing the space and programs in the Learning Commons of the Douro-Dummer Public Library.
Our goal with this project is to continue to offer and expand programming which reduces social isolation, fosters life-long learning, and supports intergenerational gathering.
