Due to a staffing issue, curbside garbage collection for Monday July 27, 2026, was missed on several roads in the Township and will be collected on Tuesday July 28, 2026. Residents on the affected roads are asked to leave their garbage at the curb until it has been collected. Waste Connections apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates your patience and understanding.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, curbside garbage collection on Monday July 20, 2026, has been missed on several roads in the Township and will be collected on Tuesday July 21, 2026. Double collection will occur next week for anyone unable to put their garbage back out.

Lakelands Public Health is urging residents of Haliburton, Kawartha, Peterborough and Northumberland to take precautions to protect against heat- and air quality-related illnesses. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued Heat and Air Quality Warnings for the region. When both heat and air quality warnings are in place, most people should prioritize keeping cool.

Take Notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Douro-Dummer previously provided Notice of Complete Application for a Zoning By-law Amendment in accordance with Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990. And Take Notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Douro-Dummer will hold a public meeting to consider the proposed amendment to the Township of Douro-Dummer Comprehensive Zoning By-law No. 10-1996 under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990. P. 13, as amended. The ZBA has been assigned File Number R-04-26 and the subject property is located at 1182 Birchview Road. 

Please be advised that the Township Office will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 for Canada Day. All office services will resume on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.

Community Care Peterborough is gathering feedback on possible new transit services in Peterborough County. Community members can complete the survey by July 10, 2026, and attend an open house on June 25, 2026, at the Douro Community Centre.

The 2026 Garbage to Garden Program helps residents reduce household waste by composting organic materials at home. Participants can apply to receive a composter or digester, with delivery, installation, and on-site training provided by Peterborough County's Waste Management team. The program offers a simple and convenient way to divert organics from landfill while creating nutrient-rich compost for use in gardens and landscaping.

This event has been postponed because of a scheduling conflict. There will be no changes to our office hours on Wednesday June 24, 2026.

Join us for the Douro Canada Day Parade on Wednesday, July 1 at 2:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the parade, free of charge. Parade entries may include walkers, floats, community groups, or decorated vehicles. All entries must register in advance.

Participants who are walking or driving in the parade are asked to assemble at 2:00 p.m. at the bottom of the hill on Douro Fourth Line Road.
