Transfer Station

The Township of Douro-Dummer operates the Glen Hall Transfer Station located at 1951 County Road 6 We accept a variety of garbage, recycling, compost, large items and household waste.

Hours of operation

From May 1 to October 31 the Transfer Station is open at the following times:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday – closed

From November 1 to April 30 the Transfer Station is open at the following times:

  • Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - closed

Transfer Station Cards

You need a Transfer Station Card to use the Transfer Station. We will send out a new card each year along with your first tax bill. If you need a replacement card, you can purchase one for $25 at the Transfer Station.

Fees

Review our disposal fees:

  • $3 per bag of garbage
  • $3 for materials weighing less than 13.6 kg (30 lbs)
  • $95 per tonne for loads greater than 13.6 kg
  • For appliances containing freon, an additional $15 fee is charged as well as the per tonne cost

We are currently only accepting debit payments.

COVID-19 updates and regulations

We accept bagged garbage, blue box recycling and food waste as well as:

  • Loose garbage in clear bags
  • Scrap metal
  • Scrap wood
  • Electronic waste
  • Propane tanks
  • Used oil

Please note that due to COVID-19 mattresses and box-springs are not being accepted at this time and the re-use building is also closed.

Additional protective measures against COVID-19 continue to be in place. Please follow these guidelines when you visit:

  • Maintain physical distancing measures
  • Remain in your vehicle while waiting for access
  • Follow the direction of Transfer Station staff at all times

Due to additional COVID-19 precautions, you can expect delays when visiting the Transfer Station.

Waste disposal rules

Please follow all standard waste disposal rules:

  • Garbage must be placed in clear bags
  • Blue box recycling must be sorted (containers and fibres)
  • Only food waste is allowed in the Moloks (no yard waste, packaging or bags)

Environmental and household hazardous waste events

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we're not holding any environmental and household waste events at the Transfer Station. To dispose of household hazardous waste, please visit the Household Hazardous Waste Depot in the County of Peterborough.

What items do you accept?

We accept the following household waste items at our events:

  • Aerosols
  • Antifreeze
  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries
  • Cleaners
  • Cosmetics and make-up
  • Fertilizers
  • Fluorescent light tubes and bulbs
  • Gasoline (containers will not be returned)
  • Glues and caulking
  • Herbicides
  • Hot tub chemicals
  • Ink cartridges
  • Mercury containing devices
  • Motor oil (containers will not be returned)
  • Oil filters
  • Paints and coatings
  • Pesticides
  • Propane cylinders (50kg/100lbs maximum)
  • Sealants and stains
  • Soap
  • Toiletries

What items are not accepted?

The following items are not accepted at these events:

  • Bio-medical waste
  • Commercial hazardous waste
  • Explosives (including firecrackers and ammunition)
  • Pharmaceuticals (return these to a pharmacy)
  • Sharps and needles (return these to a pharmacy)

Bush, leaf and yard waste

Bush, leaf or yard waste is not accepted at the Halls Glen Transfer Station. You can dispose of this material at:

Construction and demolition waste is not accepted at the Halls Glen Transfer Station, but can be disposed of at the following locations:

Recycling and diversion 

Can I drop off my blue box material at the Halls Glen Transfer Station?

Yes, blue box recycling is available at all Transfer Stations in Peterborough County at no charge to residents.

Recycling needs to be placed loose (no bagged materials) into the appropriate containers or papers bin.

 Are there other recycling or diversion programs available?

Yes, there are several recycling programs running in the County of Peterborough and Township of Douro-Dummer. In addition to blue box recycling, the Hall's Glen Transfer Station collects the following materials  year-round:

  • Batteries – up to 5 kg (11 lbs)
  • Electronics and electrical recycling
    • Air conditions, dehumidifiers, fridges, freezers, water coolers and gas-powered devices are not recyclable in this program
  • Food waste
  • Motor oil
  • Propane tanks
  • Re-usable textiles
  • Tires – rims must be removed (tires on rims will not be accepted)

     Programs run by other organizations

     The following programs are also available, please contact the program organizer for details:
    • Clothing, fabrics and household items in good condition can be donated to several charities; however not all charities accept clothing or fabric that is damaged. Value Village will accept clothing and fabric that is no longer wanted due to rips, worn patches or stains (moldy or soiled clothing must be washed and dried before donating). For a list of accepted items visit the Value Village website.
    • Many animal shelters accept donations of used blankets, linens, towels and pet/livestock equipment. Call your local shelter to determine what items they will accept.
    • Eyeglasses may be donated to the Lion's Club.
    • Medical sharps and needles must be disposed of in approved containers from a pharmacy. Contact your pharmacy for details.
    • Styrofoam used in packaging (such as the shaped pieces that electronics are shipped in) should be dropped off at the 24-hr Recycling Depot at 400 Pido Road.
    • Books in good condition can be donated. Books that are in poor condition can be recycled (remove the hard covers).
    • Empty pesticide and seed bags and containers may be eligible for return through CleanFARMS.
    • Bale wrap, silage bags, mulch film, greenhouse film, pallet stretch wrap and boat wrap may be collected by Switch Energy Corp. Farmers, marinas and organizations that deal with this waste can contact Switch Energy Corp for details.
