Shelagh Landsmann Appointed to Vacant Dummer Ward Seat
Douro-Dummer, ON – August 12, 2025 – During the August 5, 2025, Council Meeting, Township Council appointed Shelagh Landsman to serve as Dummer Ward Councillor for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term.
The Dummer Ward Seat has been vacant since late May, following the formal resignation of Councillor Adam Vervoort. This caused Township Council to offer the seat to the 2022 Municipal Election runner-up, Shelagh Landsman. Councillor Landsman noted that when asked to return to the seat that she had occupied for 22 years, after the initial shock, she was eager to return to a position that she had long enjoyed.
“In the grand scheme of things, I feel very humbled to be asked to return to Council,” said Councillor Landsmann. “It’s nice to be back with my Council family.”
Prior to the 2022 Municipal Election, Councillor Landsmann served as the Dummer Ward Councillor for 22 years, first being elected during the municipal election in 2000. According to Landsmann, her work in municipal politics was sparked by a conversation with then Councillor, and later Township of Douro-Dummer Mayor, J. Murray Jones, who suggested that she would be well-suited for the role.
Throughout her professional career, Councillor Landsmann has worked in radio, court services, and print media. For twenty years, she published her own magazine, Laker’s Link. She believes these experiences have helped her to read reports carefully and suggest changes when needed.
When asked what she most looks forward to when returning to Council, she said that she looks forward to speaking with constituents and helping convey information, and answer questions or concerns from Council Meetings. “I enjoy helping people understand things, because if you don’t understand it, you likely won’t like it,” explained Landsmann.
Shelagh Landsmann will be serving as Councillor for Dummer Ward until the next Municipal Election in October 2026.
When asked for her perspective on Councillor Landsmann’s re-appointment, Township of Douro-Dummer Mayor, Heather Watson said, “I am looking forward to working alongside Councillor Landsmann again. Her extensive knowledge of Dummer Ward combined with her previous experience on Council will help ensure continuity, strengthen our decision-making, and provide valuable insight as we work together to address the needs of our community."
